Service Scholarship Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in the Service Scholars Program at Fisher.

Instructions to the Candidate

  • The scholarship application review begins on December 15 and will continue until the final application deadline of January 15. Remember to keep a copy for your records.
  • We recommend that all candidates for the Service Scholars Program file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by January 15.
  • Finalists will be contacted for an interview.
  • All applicants will be notified of a decision no later than March 1.

Questions for the Candidate

Community Engagement Information

Please list up to three examples that demonstrate your commitment to helping the community. Examples may include volunteering for a non-profit organization, helping others through service projects, tutoring or mentoring, or fundraising activities that you did on your own or with others.

Please select experiences from your high school years that were meaningful to you and best describe your relationship to service to and for others.

  1. Describe the service you provided to the organization or individual. Please provide as much detail as possible.
  2. Why was this experience important to you, and what motivated you to get and stay involved. Please write at least three sentences. 
  3. Describe if this example was done through your high school tied to a mandated requirement or done separately as a volunteer.
  4. How did you learn and grow from this experience? Please write at least three sentences. 

Note: For each example, you will be asked to list one reference and their contact information.

Essay

Please answer the questions in the space provided. Your answer should be at least 250 words but should be no more than 500 words.

Please explain why you would like to be a Service Scholar at Fisher, specifically by answering the following prompts:

  • What are you excited to experience and learn as a student in the Service Scholar Program?
  • If you are selected for the Service Scholar Program, what will you contribute that is unique to you and how would it add value to our Scholar community?
  • Of all of your community service and volunteer activities, which one was most meaningful to you and why?
  • Can you share a time when you took on a leadership role during a service project? What did you learn about being a leader from that experience?
