Residency Descriptions

Residency experiences take place at several locations across the Rochester and Syracuse area, as well as the Wegmans School of Pharmacy.

Residents are eligible to participate in a wide range of elective rotations based on their areas of professional interest.

PGY 2 Ambulatory Care Residency, Rochester Regional Health

Residency Program Director: Dr. Alex DeLucenay

The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Program develops an ambulatory care pharmacist competent in diverse clinical settings. Residents will become proficient in the pharmacotherapy management of most chronic disease states, with an emphasis on diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, COPD, and heart failure. The program also aims to create a skilled preceptor and classroom teacher of pharmacy students from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy. The residency features four longitudinal experiences at the Riedman Health Center, the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute, and the Greater Rochester Independent Practice Association.

PGY 2 Infectious Disease Residency, St. Joseph's Health

Residency Program Director: Dr. Lisa Avery

The Infectious Diseases Residency at St. Joseph's Health prepares residents with the skills necessary to provide antibiotic stewardship across the continuum of care. In addition to developing clinical expertise in infectious diseases, the resident is involved in a variety of academic experiences including educator and preceptor training. St. Joseph's Health has an active and innovative antimicrobial stewardship program that not only ensures appropriate antimicrobial use in the inpatient, emergency department, and intensive care settings but also extends into ambulatory care and urgent care environments. Faculty are enthusiastic about teaching providers, patients, and students on the appropriate use of antimicrobials to prevent antimicrobial resistance.

PGY 2 Ambulatory Care Residency, Jordan Health Center

Residency Program Director: Dr. Gabriela Cipriano

The Ambulatory Care Residency at Jordan Health Center is a 12-month program that aims to develop a competent ambulatory care pharmacist with skills working in a diverse, federally qualified health center. Learning experiences over the program year focus on preparing the resident to provide independent and optimal patient care through collaboration with other health care professionals. Residents will become proficient in chronic disease state management with an emphasis on diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, chronic kidney disease, smoking cessation, and anticoagulation. The resident will engage in rotational learning experiences in specialty areas and complete a longitudinal research project. The resident will serve as a preceptor in a clinical setting at Jordan Health Center and as an instructor in didactic teaching in the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher University.

Public Health Pharmacy Fellowship, Wegmans School of Pharmacy

Fellowship Program Director: Dr. Kelly Conn

The fellowship includes training and experience in various areas such as expanding clinical practice skills, developing research skills, and developing public health expertise based on unique hands-on opportunities. The fellow will initiate and implement research projects with training in experimental methods, design and implementation of research projects, IRB application, data collection, analysis, and dissemination as well as opportunities for grant submission.

Clinical training will include working at a UR/URMC site caring for a diverse population of patients in Rochester, NY, implementing site-specific projects, and supporting efforts in areas such as patient care, quality improvement, administration, and support services. Depending on interest, a fellow may also partner with other community organizations on selective projects or initiatives. The fellow will also gain skills in areas of leadership, teaching, and community education. They will assist with teaching instruction including evidence-based medicine coursework and other areas based on their expertise and interest.
