Clubs and Research

There are many ways to get ready for graduate programs and careers in health care at Fisher. On campus, the Pre-Health Club, Pre-Pharmacy Club, Biology Club, and Chemistry Club sponsor career exploration programs, graduate school information sessions, field trips to professional schools and conferences, as well as picnics and other social events. You may also take advantage of the opportunity to conduct independent research in health-related fields with a faculty member.

Job Shadowing

Off-campus, one of the most effective ways to learn about the life of most health care professionals is to spend a day on the job with them. Job shadowing also helps you establish contacts with other professionals, learn about career preparation steps, and evaluate whether you feel that you'd be satisfied in a similar career. Fisher's alumni network includes many health professionals and can be a great resource for identifying individuals to shadow and build your network.

Clinical Experience

Additionally, most successful applicants to health professions schools have demonstrated their commitment to a career in health care by obtaining significant clinical experience. Volunteering in a hospital, nursing home, health clinic, or other health care facility can be a great way to get this experience. The Rochester area has a large number of local health care facilities and non-profit health-related organizations where Fisher students have volunteered and gained employment, and the Health Professions Advising program and the Center for Career and Academic Planning can help you identify and locate these opportunities to build your experience.
