Bio

Ontiveros can discuss how the targeted delivery of biomolecules to specific tissues can provide biologists with an opportunity to develop improved approaches to treat and prevent disease. He believes in a multidisciplinary approach that makes use of concepts and tools from the fields of chemistry, material science, cell biology, and immunology. Research in his laboratory focuses on the use of lipid-based nanoparticles to understand the molecular basis of inflammation and to explore novel ways in which drug delivery and vaccination can become more effective.

Trained in microbiology and cellular immunology at the National University of Mexico and the University of Rochester, Ontiveros conducted postdoctoral research in the fields of inflammation and amyloid-fibril antimicrobials before joining the faculty at Fisher.

His time is currently divided between teaching microbiology, immunology, and nanobiology, and running Fisher’s Nanobiology Lab.
