Sapinoro's cross-disciplinary research interests use his extensive training in immunology and environmental toxicology to focus on investigating the influence of endogenous lipid mediators in the regulation of cells involved in innate and adaptive immune responses. The ability of bioactive lipid mediators to regulate immune cell function may be a therapeutic avenue to treat diseases associated with autoimmunity, chronic inflammation, or influence the efficacy of vaccinations. Overall, the goals of this research are to gain a better understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the actions of different families of endogenous bioactive lipid mediators, and to translate this information towards the development of novel therapies. While performing post-doctoral research at the University of Rochester, Sapinoro received Fellowship Training awards in viral diseases, vaccines, bio-defense, and environmental toxicology. In 2010, Sapinoro was awarded the American Thoracic Society Minority Trainee Award.
His novel research results have been recognized and published in top-rated journals in his field of study, and he has presented at numerous conferences, including the American Society of Gene Therapy, American Thoracic Society, The Congress of the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids, and AIDS Vaccine.
