Fisher Launches New Lecture Series

Carolyn Woo to be Inaugural Speaker of the New Donald L. and Marilyn B. Muench Faith in Action Lecture Series

Dr. Carolyn Yauyan Woo, former president and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States, will be the inaugural speaker of St. John Fisher College’s new Donald L. and Marilyn B. Muench Faith in Action Lecture Series.

The lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Cleary Family Auditorium in Kearney Hall. It is free and open to the public. Her talk is entitled, “Faith in Action: A Tale of God, Neighbor Self.”

Woo is repeatedly recognized for her work, and has been selected as one of 40 Young Leaders of American Academe by Change Magazine. She was among one of the “500 Most Powerful People on the Planet” in the May/June 2013 issue of Foreign Policy. In addition, she was one of the five presenters in Rome at the release of Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment in 2015.

The Donald L. and Marilyn B. Muench Faith in Action Lecture Series was created to honor the legacy and heritage of the College’s founding Basilian Fathers. Lectures will explore the myriad ways that this tradition influences our culture and applies to our actions for positive good in our present times. The series is named in honor of long-time professor and Fisher alumnus, Dr. Donald Muench, a member of the College’s Pioneer Class, the Class of 1955.
