Catch Up with #Fisher2021: Alumnus Returns for Sport Management Graduate Program
May 2021 graduate Ryan Eddy loves St. John Fisher College so much, he returned this fall to take part in the College’s new Online Master of Science in Sport Management degree program.
“My undergraduate experience was a great foundation that I will be able to use throughout the duration of my career. Without the knowledge I have gained within my program here, I wouldn’t feel as prepared to enter the industry as I am today,” he said.
Eddy said Fisher helped him gain hands-on experience and connect with professionals in his field. This allowed him to learn from those in his area of interest and get lasting advice to take with him in his career.
“Throughout my time at school I have worked within the industry, including with the Rochester Americans in their team store, and the Amsterdam Mohawks as a gamely operations intern,” he explained. “These two internships provided me with valuable experience where I was able to interact with and assist thousands of fans in many different ways.”
This fall, Eddy returned to Fisher to enroll in the online sport management graduate program. “Within this program, I will be able to further my knowledge by taking classes as well as through an internship with Flower City Union,” he said. Flower City Union, a new professional soccer team in Rochester, partnered with Fisher on the program and will allow students to get to work directly with the development and operations of the sports organization.
In the future, he hopes to have a position within a Major League Soccer organizations’ operations side. “I have been a fan of soccer my whole life and have always wanted to work in professional sports. I hope that in five years’ time, I will be able to continue working with the sport I have followed and help continue its growth in our country.”
