Cavanaugh Reading Series Features Guggenheim Fellow
Guggenheim fellow and noted author and poet Stephen Kuusisto will read from his newest works during St. John Fisher College’s 2021 Cavanaugh Reading Series. Sponsored by the English Department, the event is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Golisano Gateway Midlevel, and is free and open to the public.
Kuusisto is the author of Eavesdropping: A Memoir of Blindness and Listening and the acclaimed memoir Planet of the Blind, a New York Times “Notable Book of the Year.” He has published the books of poems Only Bread, Only Light and Letters to Borges with Copper Canyon Press, and his essays and poems have appeared in Harpers, The New York Times Magazine, Poetry, and Partisan Review, among others.
Recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in poetry, Kuusisto has made numerous appearances on programs including “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Dateline NBC,” National Public Radio, and the BBC.
Blind since birth, Kuusisto speaks widely on diversity, disability, education, and public policy, and he currently directs the interdisciplinary programs and outreach initiative for the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University.
