Events Build Pharmacy School Community

December 8, 2022

Every year, the Wegmans School of Pharmacy hosts a number events and observances both locally in Rochester and around the nation, to build connections, advocate for the profession, and celebrate pharmacy.

From a morning at the Buffalo Bills Training Camp to dinners at professional conferences in Texas and Las Vegas, Dean Christine Birnie said alumni events are a wonderful way to reconnect with graduates of the School, see preceptors in-person, and meet a number of online students who live in those regions.

Additionally, in October, the School joined a nationwide effort to shine the spotlight on the pharmacy profession during the month of October. The American Society of Health-system Pharmacists designated the week of October 16-23 as an opportunity to educate the public about the role of pharmacists as members of the health care team and advance the profession (ASHP National Pharmacy Week). The week also coincided with the American Pharmacists’ Association’s designation of October as American Pharmacists’ Month (APhA American Pharmacy Month).

The School celebrated with service projects, advocacy efforts, educating the community, hosting a guest speaker, and celebrating the profession.

“These commemorations are a great way to raise awareness of how pharmacists serve our community,” said Dr. Christine Birnie, dean of the School. “The School of Pharmacy hosted a range of activities throughout the month to celebrate, educate, and advocate for the profession.”
