Fisher to Host First-Gen Week Celebration
On Monday, Nov. 7, St. John Fisher University will celebrate all first-generation college students and alumni. Students will have a chance to hear from members of the campus community including faculty and staff, students, and alumni who will share what their first-generation journey has meant to them. The day is being hosted by the SJF First-Gen Day Committee.
Today, one in three undergraduates—nearly five million nationwide—identify as first-generation college students. At Fisher, 17 percent of students are first-generation, as identified by the FAFSA. While First-Gen Day celebrates those students, all members of the campus community are welcome to attend the reception to enjoy refreshments and grab swag including stickers, buttons, and other goodies.
Additionally, students and community members will have an opportunity to congratulate and acknowledge any and all December 2022 and May 2023 graduates that are first in their family to graduate from a four-year baccalaureate program.
Check-in starts at 4:45 p.m. in the Golisano Gateway Midlevel, and festivities begin at 5 p.m.
Registration is requested and attendees can sign up online. For questions, contact Gabe Iturbides, Trio Student Support Services program director, at giturbides@sjf.edu.
