Fisher Senior in the Running for Best Buddies Champion of the Year
St. John Fisher University senior Gianna Giglio has been nominated as a Champion of the Year candidate through the Western New York Chapter of Best Buddies International.
Best Buddies International is a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Champion candidates commit to raising funds and awareness for Best Buddies throughout their campaign.
Giglio is the vice president of Fisher’s chapter for Best Buddies, and has engaged in several activities and events throughout the summer and fall to promote the organization. Best Buddies is a cause close to Giglio’s heart; her brother, Vincenzo, has multiple disabilities requiring 24-hour care and she has become an advocate for all individuals with IDD.
“This organization means the world to me and I am so honored to be able to bring awareness to it,” said Giglio. “I would love to win Champion of the Year to support every individual with disabilities and to represent Fisher.”
The Champion of the Year will be announced on Friday, Nov. 17, at the Best Buddies Gala.
