Dr. Desireé Branson, a visiting assistant professor for the Wegmans School of Nursing, was recently recognized by the Allergy Advocates NY.
During their annual celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 23, Branson was given the John J. Condemi Award, which recognized her commitment to community advocacy and education through her significant professional activities.
Branson, who joined Fisher’s faculty in 2018, has volunteered with Allergy Advocates NY for four years. She has served as a presenter of their Epi Near You New York program, an emergency anaphylaxis training program that teaches how to save lives in the event of anaphylaxis emergencies. Branson also brought the training to Fisher’s campus in collaboration with the Student Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
As a current member of the organization’s board of directors, she engages in advocacy work on behalf of the organization, with a focus on educating patients on the treatments available to them and ensuring nurse practitioners have the highest level of knowledge and skill related to allergy treatment.
Branson is a triple alumna of the University of Rochester School of Nursing. While pursuing her doctoral degree from UR, she was given the Innovations in Health Care Award, which is sponsored by John Terry, the founder of Allergy Advocates NY. In addition to teaching at Fisher, she serves as a nurse practitioner with the URMC Department of Anesthesia, Center for Perioperative Medicine. She is a past president of the Nurse Practitioner Association New York State, where her leadership enhanced public health in all areas by expanding and promoting the leadership capabilities of nurse practitioners across the state.
