Pharmacy Month Puts Profession in Focus

October 10, 2024

This month, a series of events and activities at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy will celebrate the pharmacy profession.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists designates the week of October 20-26 as an opportunity to educate the public about the role of pharmacists as members of the health care team and advance the profession (ASHP National Pharmacy Week). The week also coincides with the American Pharmacists Association’s designation of October as American Pharmacists Month (APhA American Pharmacists Month).

“National Pharmacy Month is a way to celebrate, educate, and advocate for the profession as we raise awareness of the positive impact pharmacists have in their communities,” said Dr. Christine Birnie, dean of the School.

The School kicked off the month by hosting career fairs for both its on-campus and online pathway students. Members of the School hosted a table at the University-wide Fall Career Fair, and hosted a School-based Fair, as well. Online students participated in a virtual fair, which introduced them to a geographically diverse group of potential employers.

Additional events included a service project hosted by the Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI) and Pharmacy Student Government Association (PSGA) and a night of celebration at the annual Pharmacy Society of Rochester Pharmacy Gala.
