Pharmacy Team Visits Wegmans Central Fill Facility

During fall break, faculty and staff from the School of Pharmacy toured the Wegmans Pharmacy Central Fill facility in Buffalo, New York.

The facility fills more than 30,000 prescriptions a day, supplying their 96 pharmacies and mail order systems with up to 40 percent of their daily prescription fills. This provides pharmacists in the local stores with more time to provide clinical pharmacy care and work at the top of their pharmacy licenses. 

“Roughly half of our graduates go into community pharmacy, and these tours provide an opportunity for our faculty and staff to see the latest technology and advances in that field,” said Dean Birnie. 

Earlier in 2024, another group from the School visited the facility, and Birnie said there are plans for a third trip.

Wegmans Pharmacy has been a partner with the Pharm.D. program since the School’s inception, offering student rotations, supporting faculty, and furthering its educational mission.
