Wegmans School of Pharmacy Welcomes Three New Residents

October 1, 2024

The Wegmans School of Pharmacy has welcomed three new residents to participate in the year-long pharmacy residency program to gain experience in a vast array of clinical settings as consulting members of health care teams.

Cadhan McFadden, Teresita Muniz, Ashley Smith

The program prepares graduates to become competent clinical pharmacists through these experiences, and the residents are eligible to participate in a wide range of elective rotations based on their areas of professional interest.

This year’s residents include:

Cadhan McFadden ’23 (Pharm.D.)
PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Resident at St. Joseph’s Health Center under the guidance of Dr. Lisa Avery

Upon graduation from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, McFadden engaged in a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital in Syracuse, New York. The experience led him to commit to the PGY-2 Residency in Infectious Diseases at St. Joseph’s.

Through his clinical experiences while a student in the School of Pharmacy, he was able to see all the facets of pharmacy and how impactful pharmacists can be. His time at Fisher allowed him to pursue his passion and provided him with meaningful experiences he uses in his practice now. In his PGY-2, he hopes to improve as a preceptor, build on his public speaking skills, and be a more effective communicator within the health care team. His post-residency plans include pursuing a career in infectious diseases, preferably as part of an infectious disease consult team.

Teresita Muniz ’23 (Pharm.D.)
PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Resident at Anthony Jordan Health Center under the guidance of Dr. Gabriela Cipriano

Muniz graduated from the St. John Fisher University Wegmans School of Pharmacy in 2023. She recently completed her first-year of residency at the Finger Lakes VA, where her training was largely focused on outpatient and long-term care. Over the past year, she has cultivated her pharmacy knowledge through working with veterans. Her main clinical interests include women’s health and primary care. Moving into her second year of residency, she is excited to further hone her ambulatory care skills and work with such a vulnerable and diverse patient population at Anthony Jordan Health. After her residency, she hopes to secure an ambulatory care or academia position as a pharmacist and continue to work with both the students and patients of Rochester.

Ashley Smith ’23 (Pharm.D.)
PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Resident at Rochester Regional Health under the guidance of Dr. Alex DeLucenay

Smith completed her pharmacy degree from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy in 2023. Following completion of her degree, she went on to pursue a PGY-1 Ambulatory Care Residency at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences/Atrius Health. During her PGY-1, she was able to expand upon her ambulatory care knowledge through multiple direct patient care rotations in a variety of clinics throughout the Boston area. She also engaged in a variety of different teaching opportunities that enhanced her passion for academia. The PGY-2 experience will help further her growth as a well-rounded ambulatory care pharmacist all while gaining more experience in academia through teaching and precepting current pharmacy students. After completing her residency training, Smith hopes to become board-certified in ambulatory care and begin her career as an ambulatory care pharmacist.
