Fisher Students Explore Social Change through Theater
St. John Fisher University students will present, “Fractures: Political Theater at the Black Box,” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Black Box Theater in the Arts Center at Murphy Hall.
A series of short plays and monologues, “Fractures” is produced and performed by students in Professor Jeremy Sarachan’s course, Theater and Social Change. Throughout the semester, students read several plays dealing with social problems and then researched, wrote, and created their own work of devised theater.
Their plays explore the political climate in the United States, tackling topics including reproductive rights, gun violence, and political conversations. In addition to deepening their understanding of how theater can examine current events and social change, students had the opportunity to learn about theater design and arts management as they bring their works to life. “Fractures” will be fully produced with lights and sound.
Students in the course include Carson Cognetti ’27, Amanda David ’27, Gabriella Dotolo ’27, Kaylah Farrell ’27, Tomas Hernandez ’25, and Pridday Jolliffe-Buyce ’27.
