#Fisher2019: Using Her PR Education, Just Two Days After Graduation
Just 48 hours after crossing the stage to receive her diploma, Class of 2019 graduate Alyssa Whitley was crossing items of her work “To Do” list.
A media management major at Fisher, Whitley transitioned from a fall internship at Dixon Schwabl, an integrated public relations, marketing, and advertising agency based in Victor, New York, into a part-time position through the spring semester.
Two days after Commencement, she began her career as a full-time public relations assistant, flexing her passion for storytelling by supporting both retainer and project-based clients.
Her first tasks? Scanning a mountain of newspapers looking for client mentions, followed by some email management. Whitley took a two-week vacation from her part-time job to finish her finals and enjoy Senior Week activities, which included skydiving, the senior ball, and of course, graduation.
“I was happy to take the time to celebrate senior week and make some incredible final memories with my friends,” she said. Now, it is all business, but at Dixon, which has earned numerous Great Place to Work® accolades, that means a fair bit of fun, too. “I’m so excited to jump into my role at Dixon and make it my focus. It was challenging balancing work, classes, clubs, and other commitments. Since this was my end goal with all I’ve learned at Fisher, I’m thrilled to make it my top priority.”
