School of Business Taps 26 Students into Beta Gamma Sigma
This spring, 26 students in the School of Business were tapped to join St. John Fisher College’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), an international honor society for business students and scholars.
Select students were invited to join the society by School of Business Dean, Dr. Rama Yelkur, and BGS faculty advisor, Dr. Jason Berman, during surprise in-class tapping ceremonies. The two unexpectedly popped into classes over the course of a few weeks in February to officially tap the deserving students and invite them to lifetime membership in the distinguished honor society. Several faculty members were invited to membership and existing members were also recognized during the ceremonious tapping.
Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the baccalaureate and top 20 percent of graduate programs at schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International are eligible for the society. Those who chose to be inducted join an expanding worldwide network of more than 625,000 outstanding business professionals who have earned recognition through lifetime membership in BGS.

“The coronavirus pandemic has postponed our planned celebration of student recognition for Beta Gamma Sigma. What it has not and cannot postpone is students’ responsibility for practicing leadership. These young leaders have demonstrated the intelligence, perseverance, and integrity to make a positive difference in business,” said Berman.
Typically, a recognition ceremony is held in April but it has been postponed until an on-campus event is possible when recipients, their parents, and other special guests can celebrate this prestigious student achievement with faculty and other existing BGS members.
