Countdown to Commencement: Allen Murphy
This week’s Countdown to Commencement features Allen Murphy, a biology major who was nominated by Dr. Noveera Ahmed, associate professor of biology.
During his time at Fisher, Murphy served as president of TriBeta, the biology honor society, for which he organized several service projects, and he was successful in securing grant funding to help pursue his undergraduate research project.
Murphy is also a member of Fisher’s baseball team. His time on road trips with the team are among his favorite memories. He also notes many close relationships that he has formed at Fisher, comprised of many people who he says he will hold as friends and dear to his heart for years to come.
Ahmed said that Murphy’s connections on campus helped TriBeta grow and he was always rallying the group to serve.
“He is willing to give his time to help his peers both in and out of the classroom,” she said.
Ahmed also notes that Murphy’s exemplary behavior and work ethic are what she will remember most about him.
His advice to new Fisher students?
“You don’t have to do everything immediately, and not everything has to be instant gratification; if it takes longer, it is fine. It doesn’t make you less intelligent because if you’ve learned and if you’ve bettered yourself as a person, that is what’s important.”
