Fisher Student Goes Above and Beyond in Internship

Go above and beyond with anything you are asked to do. That’s the lesson Jackie Adamo learned while serving as an intern with the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship over the summer.

Adamo found out about the interview through the College’s job board, Handshake. When learning about the position, she recalled hearing alumnus Cheol Kessler ’10 talk about his career in the golf industry during her Introduction to Sport Management class.

“His passion for the golf industry actually inspired me to pursue a career in the golf world as well, so I definitely could not pass on this opportunity,” she said.

Adamo served as a corporate hospitality intern, sorting tickets and setting up the hospitality venues to a specific standard set by both the PGA and the clients.

“We greeted the clients with a smile and made sure everything was perfect during their time at the Senior PGA Championship,” she said. “I also had an opportunity to be my supervisor’s ‘right-hand woman’ most times, and that was an experience I am so grateful for.”

Throughout her internship, she relied on the information she learned in her classes to take on any obstacles thrown her way.

“The sport management program here at Fisher made me feel fully prepared to be selected for this internship as well as to take on anything that came my way,” she said.

Her advice to students just entering the program? Ask questions and take charge.

“The sooner you start in the industry, the better prepared you will be for your future,” she said.
