Now Boarding: Fisher Flight Plan

This April, students will have a unique opportunity that requires a boarding pass, a stack of business cards, and 48 free hours. It’s called Fisher Flight Plan, an immersive career networking and exploration experience, and applications are now being accepted.

The inaugural trip, which will be funded by the President’s Office, was organized by the Center for Career and Academic Planning (CCAP) and the Office of Alumni and Constituent Engagement. Accepted students will travel to Washington, DC from April 2-3 to network with alumni, visit employers, and explore careers in one of three tracks: commerce and communications, government and public service, and law and international relations. There will also be some time planned to take in the DC sights.

“Fisher Flight Plan is one of those pivot moments for students - it truly can transform how a student sees their future. It’s the sort of program that differentiates Fisher and the Fisher experience for our students, and it gives our alumni a new way to support the College and our students,” said Dr. Julia Overton-Healy, director of career services in CCAP.

The 48-hour trip will include a professionalism workshop, a career advice breakfast with alumni, and track excursions hosted by DC Cardinals.

“We are thrilled to offer the inaugural Fisher Flight Plan this year. The program is such a unique way to engage our alumni with current students and one that we hope to grow as we move Fisher forward,” said Teah Terrance, director of alumni and constituent engagement. “Our alumni have so much to offer our students and this career development initiative is just one of those ways for them to share their knowledge, insight, and mentorship. It truly demonstrates what Fisher for life means.”

Overton-Healy and Terrance hope this can become an annual trip, rotating cities and career track options. In addition, they anticipate alumni in future target cities sponsoring a student to participate.

Students can apply online, and the deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7. All majors, class years, and degree types are welcome to apply. Following the trip, selected students will be invited to participate in a showcase event at which they share their perspectives on how the experience supported their career readiness.
