Political Action Club to Host Virtual Voter Registration Drive
In ever changing times, the Political Action Club (PAC) continues to remain an active club on Fisher’s virtual campus. While many of their planned events were canceled, they’re harnessing the connectivity of Zoom to hold a Virtual Voter Registration Drive, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.
To join the event, log in to Zoom or call into the meeting at (646) 518-9805, then enter the meeting ID: 112035576#.
PAC is led by a core group of students, including Dylan McQuoid, Morgan Bajish, Natalia Quevedo-De La Espriella, Parker Druzbik, Avery Ryan, and Max Wright. As they do every semester, the group planned to hold a voter registration drive on April 1, in advance of the presidential primaries. With the primaries pushed back to June, it allowed the club to reorganize, and host the virtual event. The students will help guide first-time voters to register, students who previously registered using their Fisher address to request absentee ballots, and answer any questions about voting in New York.
Zoom offers two features that will help Dr. Kathleen Donovan, club advisor and associate professor of political science, manage the event. The waiting room feature will allow her to manage the flow of people coming in and out of the event and she can send participants to break out rooms where a PAC member can talk them through the process.
“I hope that we can make the process of registering to vote and requesting an absentee ballot as easy as possible, and help students understand the voting process,” shared Donovan. “I would argue it's even more important to pay attention and get involved than in ‘normal times.’”
