Workshop Teaches Students Communication through Movement

Students from two courses in the Department of Media and Communication classes attended a movement workshop led by Darren Stevenson, artistic director and CEO of Push Physical Theatre, a local performance company that uses the physical movement of the body to tell a story and convey emotion.

Students taking Public Speaking and Virtual Reality and Interactive Art engaged in a number of movement exercises, exploring movement through solo and duo activities. They also learned how to communicate through movement, trust, understanding physical and personal space, and become more comfortable with physical communication.

The event was offered in conjunction with St. John Fisher College’s sponsorship of the KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival.

“It’s wonderful to bring professionals to campus to provide students with unique and valuable experiences such as this,” said Jeremy Sarachan, chair of the Department of Media and Communication.
