Countdown to Commencement 2021: Alyssa Karl
Nursing major Alyssa Karl is the next member of the Class of 2021 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Karl was nominated by Vicki Alfieri, assistant director of freshman admissions.
The Long Island native represents the College as a student ambassador and a Service Scholar. In her freshman year, she served the Student Government Association as vice president of clubs and organizations.
“That was a really great way to meet new people, especially coming from Long Island and my high school. I didn't really know anybody coming up here, so it was really a great way for me to get involved,” said Karl.
Alfieri shared that Karl is always willing to help out the Office of Admissions, whether she is needed to give a tour, talk with a prospective student interested in nursing, or give a video tour of the Wegmans School of Nursing. She is also known for her willingness to volunteer her time to help others and always doing so with a smile on her face and a great attitude.
Karl was one of the first students with whom Alfieri built a relationship during her time working in admissions at Fisher.
“She made me realize the importance of making connections with students and maintaining those connections to help students feel comfortable and welcomed on campus, particularly when they come from further away from campus,” she said. “Alyssa has all the qualities to be a successful nurse after graduation. I have no doubt that she will easily be able to make connections with her patients and put them at ease during times of stress.”
To summarize her Fisher experience, Karl said it was challenging, rewarding, and allowed her a lot of growth.
“I don't regret anything about my Fisher experience. If I had to choose Fisher, I would choose it a hundred times over,” she said.
