Countdown to Commencement 2021: Mary Grace Shine
The next member of the Class of 2021 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series is Mary Grace Shine, a biology major who was nominated by Fr. Kevin Mannara, director of campus ministry.
The Rochester native is active in service through campus ministry and in her community. During her time at Fisher, she has served as a Campus Ministry Peer Minister, was a member of the All-College Choir, and along with a few other students, started a bike ministry for homeless people in Rochester who live in Peace Village. She can also be found serving the community working at St. Joseph House of Hospitality and working as an EMT.
“The College’s motto of the Basilian Fathers, of goodness, discipline, and knowledge - I think every aspect of my experience here has been rooted in those. Whether it’s the goodness of friends and the experiences in the classroom, the knowledge that I’ve gained, and the discipline to do all those things and to go forward and continue in my career, I’ll always have those things,” said Shine.
Mannara shared that her work in coordinating service opportunities for students throughout her years in Campus Ministry has impacted her peers by sparking the desire to serve the community and others with kindness, love, and generosity.
“Mary Grace is very thoughtful in how she approaches tasks and her ability to balance school, service, work, and faith is inspiring. We had the opportunity to work closely on a few programs for Campus Ministry and the Interfaith Advisory Council and she was innovative in her thoughts and ideas,” he said.
