Fisher to Benefit from American Rescue Plan

Following steadfast support for New York’s colleges and universities throughout the pandemic, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer has announced that the recently-signed American Rescue Plan includes an estimated $2.6 billion for New York’s public, private, and proprietary institutions of higher education.

St. John Fisher College is estimated to receive $7,039,000 as part of the plan, which will be used to provide emergency financial aid grants to students to assist them with college costs and basic needs like housing, food, and health care. The other half of the funds will provide additional student support activities, and to cover a variety of institutional costs, including lost revenue, reimbursement for expenses already incurred, technology costs associated with a transition to distance education, faculty and staff trainings, and payroll.

These funds will offer financial relief to our students, helping them to focus their energy on obtaining their education rather than struggling to meet basic needs. The Rescue Plan also provides substantial resources that will allow Fisher to continue to deliver a high-quality education, while ensuring the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff,” said Dr. Gerard J. Rooney, president of the College.
