AMA Chapter Receives Honorable Mention
St. John Fisher College’s Chapter of the American Marketing Association (SJFC AMA) received an Honorable Mention with their submission through the 2022 AMA Case Competition hosted by Amazon.
Led by faculty advisor Ron Sicker, visiting assistant professor of practice at the School of Business, he brought together six of the top marketing students to work on a business challenge for submission into this national competition. Fisher's chapter placed alongside the University of Florida, Indiana University, Temple University, among others.
“I am very proud of our students. To compete with all those universities that have hundreds of AMA members and bring home Honorable Mention is an amazing accomplishment. They truly did Fisher proud,” said Sicker.
Leaders Kumar Ghimirey ’22 and Nicole Smith ’23 were accompanied by Leslie Noble ’22, Sal Saunders ’23, Helen Rose Shine ’23, and Spencer Wall ’22. This competition counted as a marketing elective for the students. Members worked together in the fall of 2021 to develop a Gen Z-focused marketing campaign aimed at increasing trial membership sign ups and Prime Student benefits engagement for Amazon.
Included in this 17-page report were a background analysis, customer segmentation, brand value proposition and positioning, and a strategic communication mix that provided creative direction to accomplish the provided objectives.
“Participating in the AMA Case Study was more than an opportunity to take an atypical marketing elective. It was an experience to learn from other students and grow as a marketing professional. Throughout the course of the semester, I was able to apply the skills and knowledge obtained previously in the classroom to a real-world scenario,” said Smith. “On top of that, I learned so much from each team member throughout the entirety of the semester. I could not have asked for a better group of students to work with and I am excited for next year's submission team!”
