Countdown to Commencement 2022: Madison Dunn
Nursing major Madison Dunn is the next member of the Class of 2022 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Dunn was nominated by Erin Barry, director of the Institute for Civic and Community Engagement.
The Lewiston, New York, native is a Service Scholar and currently serves as an executive board representative for the program. She is also part of the Irish Dance Club and Teddi Dance for Love Committee.
In her nomination, Barry recalled that she first met Dunn in the fall of 2018 when she was a freshman.
“Madi has repeatedly stepped up to help her peers in a variety of ways as an e-board representative, peer mentor in the classroom, and in her extracurricular activities, and regularly gives back to campus programming through recruitment activities, the welcoming of first-year students, and Teddi,” said Barry.
She foresees Dunn becoming a nurse manager. “She has all the potential to be an excellent bedside nurse but also rise to leadership status within any organization that is lucky enough to have her.”
Barry added that Dunn has impacted her own career. She called Dunn a responsible and giving young woman who is always the first in line to volunteer for student leadership roles while also being a positive and collaborative team player with staff and peers. “I will always remember her cheery disposition, dedication to excellence, and service-orientation.”
Before coming to Fisher, Dunn knew she would pursue nursing having been inspired by her father who works as a critical care nurse. The only question was where?
“I came and visited Fisher to look at the Wegmans School of Nursing where I toured the simulation center and labs on campus,” said Dunn. “I really knew that Fisher was going to be the place that gave me those foundational skills to help me become the nurse that I wanted to be.”
After graduation, Dunn will pursue a career in critical care.
