2023 Award for Excellence in Sport Management Presented to Conrow

May 16, 2023

During the School of Arts and Sciences Awards Ceremony, Ben Conrow was presented with the 2023 Award for Excellence in Sport Management. This academic achievement recognition is awarded annually to the sport management major who earned the highest GPA among the year’s graduating seniors.

Dr. Katie Burakowski and Ben Conrow

Conrow earned the highest cumulative GPA of this year’s seniors graduating in sport management with a 3.96. He also minored in communications and was an Honors Scholar. While his academic accomplishments are noteworthy on their own, what is so striking is how he managed to excel in his coursework while balancing his commitments outside of the classroom.

Conrow interned with Flower City Union as social media coordinator and also networked while studying abroad in England to land an internship as a project liaison working in digital marketing for a UK firm. As the sport industry was figuring out how to emerge from the pandemic, he started interning at Oak Hill Country Club. Over the last three years, Conrow has progressed from clubhouse intern to clubhouse assistant to sports and recreation coordinator, and since December has been employed full-time as the digital media coordinator for Oak Hill.

“Ben, simply stated, has been the poster child for Fisher Sport Management over his three and half years on campus and as such it was a ‘no brainer’ to present this award to him,” said Program Chair Dr. Katie Burakowski. “Sport Management is so very proud to have Ben Conrow as an alum of our program and can’t wait to see all the great things for him to come.”

Conrow was quite appreciative of the acknowledgement.

“I am honored to have received the 2023 Award for Excellence in Sport Management from Dr. Burakowski,” said Conrow. “Dr. B. and all of my other professors helped prepare me for my career post-graduation, and I feel privileged to represent this wonderful department.”
