Countdown to Commencement 2023: Gavin Miller
Sport management major Gavin Miller is the final member of the Class of 2023 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Miller was nominated by Patrick Gordon, leadership annual giving officer in the Office of Institutional Advancement.
The Verona, New York native is a student ambassador, creative content intern for Fisher Athletics, a member of the men’s volleyball team, a 2022 Buffalo Bills Training Camp intern, and Orientation leader. He is also the chief student behind the feathers of one of Fisher’s most treasured representative - Cardinal.
“Gavin has completely immersed himself on campus and embraced the University experience from start to finish. He made the work during the Buffalo Bills Training Camp fun with his positive attitude, quick wit, and overall enthusiasm. The way he approached each day was infectious, bringing a smile to everyone’s face,” said Gordon.
Miller has a passion for the sport world given his involvement in Sport Management Club and as an intern for Fisher Athletics. Through his internship, he creates graphics for the athletics social channels (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter), and designs recruiting materials, game graphics, and signage.
“Gavin will continue to be the same coachable, eager professional he is now. As he develops his skillset and narrows down his career goals, opportunities will find him. Whether he’s working on an ad campaign for the Summer Olympics, managing social media platforms for a professional athlete, or showcasing the achievements of student-athletes, Gavin will be a fantastic addition to any organization just as he was here at Fisher,” said Gordon.
School mascots are said to be the embodiment of a university campus – connecting prospective students, current students, and alumni to a school. Cardinal is seen by most as a figure that builds campus spirit, provides joy to others around them, and helps students feel more connected to campus. Miller is one of the students behind Cardinal who works to build a sense of belonging in our campus community. He has been a staple at many campus events including first-year move-in, alumni weekend, Courage Bowl, and the Teddi Dance for Love, to name a few. He has also had the starring role in some of the University TikTok videos.
“Fisher has changed my life. I've had the opportunity to try new things and build lifelong friendships. Other than working in sports, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career after high school. But today, thanks to Fisher’s courses, mentorship, and internships, my future is more laid out. For that, I’d like to thank everyone that’s made an impact on my time here,” said Miller.
