Countdown to Commencement 2023: Kurt Schulz
Inclusive adolescence education and English double major Kurt Schultz is the next member of the Class of 2023 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Schultz was nominated by Molly Place, admissions counselor.
Schultz is a member of Cardinal Company, Fisher Swifties, Drastic Measures, intramural sports, and serves as open house coordinator for the Office of Admissions. He is a commuter student but is always on campus and often seen in the Office of Admissions.
“When people talk about Fisher, the number one word used is community. As I think about community, Kurt comes to mind as he is a student that constantly goes above and beyond to make every student feel included on our campus,” said Place.
Given his experience as a student ambassador, Shultz takes his passion for Fisher on his tours with prospective students. With his positive attitude and ability to make others feel welcome, he is easily able to adjust his tours to the needs and interests of campus visitors. His tours are not just a job, but an opportunity for him to immerse prospective students into an individualized Fisher experience. Shultz wants everyone to see themselves at Fisher.
“Every prospective student and family that meets with Kurt walks away with a smile. The college search process is a nerve-wracking experience and he shows families and students the fun side to the process,” said Place.
Currently, Shultz is student teaching at Webster Schroeder High School working with juniors and seniors. He hopes that this role is a steppingstone to a full-time career as a high school English teacher in the Rochester area.
“I’ve known that I wanted to be an English teacher since fifth grade and I liked Fisher’s program because of the opportunity it provides students to get into the school early on in our professional careers. Having that in-field experience, learning classroom management, and building relationships with the students has been amazing,” Shultz.
