Countdown to Commencement 2023: Maria Robinson
Nursing major Maria Robinson is the next member of the Class of 2023 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Robinson was nominated by Sarah Mancini-Goebert, assistant director, Office of Campus Ministry and Jonathan Covney, head coach, Women’s Rowing.
As a native of Lansing, New York, Robinson is a member of the women’s rowing team, a member of the peer ministry leadership team, and music minister for Campus Ministry. She also serves as a campus ambassador and was an Orientation leader for three years.
“Maria is a bridge builder–she is not afraid to put herself out there and welcome people into opportunities and experiences. She is a gifted singer and musician and has been instrumental in building the music ministry program into what it is today. Maria shares the gift of her voice willingly and beautifully,” said Mancini-Goebert.
A major focus of her involvement efforts on campus is linked to the Office of Campus Ministry and her commitment to giving back to the campus and Rochester community. As music ministers, students work with Mancini-Goebert to coordinate prayer and music at the Hermance Family Chapel of St. Basil the Great. Robinson could be seen serving as a peer minister at larger campus events such as the annual dinner at President Rooney’s house with student members of the Orientation team, Residential Life, and the Office of Campus Ministry.
“If I wanted to run an idea about a workout or anything for that matter, I knew I could trust Maria. She would always give me an honest answer as she was the heartbeat of the team,” said Covney.
Currently, Robinson is a patient care technician at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca ensuring the health of patients at the center. This role acts as a stepping stone to her career as a registered nurse. Mancini-Goebert shared her excitement for Robinson’s career emphasizing her ability to seek the best in and for others will make her an amazing nurse.
“It was a really amazing experience, not only because of the honor to be nominated for Countdown to Commencement, but it turned out to be a reflection of the past four years I’ve been studying at Fisher. It feels like a full-circle moment to look back at the beginning of college and then to where I am now and see how much I’ve grown,” said Robinson.
