Countdown to Commencement 2023: Nicole Smith
Marketing major Nicole Smith is the next soon-to-be-alumna to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Smith was nominated by Dr. Julia Overton-Healy, director of career services.
The honors student is also a legacy student, following in the footsteps of her older brother, a 2009 graduate, and her cousin, a 2019 graduate. She said she “benchmarked” all of the other schools in her college search against Fisher. In keeping with tradition, her younger brother is also a current student.
During her time at Fisher, Smith has served as vice president and president of Fisher’s American Marketing Association, president of Delta Sigma Pi, as a member on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council for the School of Business, and has been involved in the PRIMA Group. In her senior year, she has been an executive intern for the Office of Marketing and Communications, responsible for the University’s TikTok channel, executive intern program Instagram account, writing news articles, and more.
As a junior, Smith was the engagement intern for career services in the Center for Career and Academic Planning. Overton-Healy said that her work in that role elevated Career Services in a way that the team “otherwise never could have achieved.”
“She was the voice of students as we developed our strategies and programming, and guided us toward doing things in ways that would better resonate with students,” said Overton-Healy. “She is the epitome of Fisher excellence. She is engaged, interested, reliable, fresh-thinking, creative, responsible, and committed. Just look at all the ways she has embraced Fisher, and how she has served Fisher.”
When asked what she will remember most about Smith, Overton-Healy replied, “Her absolute joy in doing work. Any work. Any task. She was always upbeat and happy!”
