Ratka Given Professional Achievement Award by Idaho State University
Dr. Anna Ratka, a professor in the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, was recently named a Professional Achievement Award recipient from her alma mater, the Idaho State University (ISU) College of Pharmacy.
Given annually during Commencement, the Professional Achievement Awards recognize ISU alumni for their valuable and distinguished contributions to the University, their professions, and to their communities. Ratka graduated from the College of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D. in 2000.
Ratka earned her master of science degree in 1981 and her doctoral degree in pharmaceutical sciences in 1985 from Poznań University of Medical Sciences in Pharmacy, Poznań, Poland. After earning her doctor of pharmacy degree from ISU, she spent 11 years as an assistant and associate professor for the University. She was then hired by the University of North Texas Health Science Center as a founding director of clinical research at the Institute for Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Research. Her next position was as a founding chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Texas A&M University, where she participated in the development of curriculum and infrastructure of a new Doctor of Pharmacy program, earning full accreditation. From Texas, she moved to Chicago State University to serve as chair of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and then as interim associate dean of academic affairs.
From Chicago, Ratka joined the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher University. She served for four and half years as associate dean of academic affairs and continues to serve as a professor.
Ratka is actively involved in service to American Pharmacists Association, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the Pharmacy Society of the State of New York, and the Polish American Pharmacists Association. In 2020, she was invited by the Polish Supreme Pharmaceutical Chamber to join an expert team charged with the development of standards of pharmaceutical care practice and education in Poland. Ratka has received numerous awards and honors from her peers and students for her accomplishments in teaching, research, and service. In 2019, the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education named her an outstanding peer reviewer. She was selected as a 2022 Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association for her contributions to the pharmacy profession.
