St. John Fisher University to Host Second Annual Cardinal Nurse Camp
This July, the Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher University will host the second annual Cardinal Nurse Camp for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a nursing career.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12. It will take place at the Wegmans School of Nursing with a shadowing opportunity at Rochester General Hospital.
Designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of the nursing field, the camp offers a dynamic range of activities tailored to spark enthusiasm and knowledge among participants. From essential life-saving techniques like CPR and stop-the-bleed training to shadowing seasoned nurses, students can witness real-world scenarios and gain invaluable insights. Participants will also engage in hands-on nursing scenario simulations and cutting-edge virtual reality experiences, providing a glimpse into the complexities and rewards of the profession. Students can meet Fisher alumni as well as current nursing students to hear about their experiences with the program and will also learn more about the college application process.
Cardinal Nurse Camp is an initiative of the Fisher Improves Nursing through Diversity (FIND) program and is being funded in part by a $1.1 million Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Nursing Workforce Diversity Program grant over three years. This is the second year of the grant, and the Wegmans School of Nursing was one of only eight grant awardees in New York State.
Online registration is now open, and the fee is $450 with lunch included. The deadline to participate is May 15, 2024. Students who receive free or reduced lunch can register for free. For more information, call the Wegmans School of Nursing at (585) 899-3834 or visit go.sjf.edu/nursecamp.
