Students Play Critical Role at Nation’s Largest Girls Ice Hockey Tourney
Last fall, some of the country's top hockey talent visited Rochester for the nation’s largest girls hockey tournament and the Fisher sport management students played a significant role in its success.
Premier Ice Prospects’ Roc City Girls Fest made Western New York the hub of girls ice hockey with 174 teams taking the ice and well over 5,000 event attendees flooding the Greater Rochester area for two weeks.
The event afforded Fisher students the chance to hone their communication and critical thinking skills in a hands-on setting. Avery Byrnes ’26 was one student who took advantage of the opportunity.
“I decided to volunteer for Roc City Girls Fest because it allowed me to show support for a great event and at the same time helped me sharpen my event management skill sets,” she said. “It turned out to be a great occasion to not only volunteer, but to get to know different people in the industry!”
Event organizers were thankful for the support shown from the Fisher sport management program.
“We really appreciated the help and level of commitment the Fisher sport management students showed with regards to this year’s Roc City Girls Fest,” said Paul Maciejewski, director of events and operations for Premier Ice Prospects. “The students were unbelievably professional and willing to help in literally any way. Their support and enthusiasm made two long, tough weekends much easier.”
