Studies show that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) face alarming health disparities, including a lack of preventative care, preventable illness, and a higher mortality rate than their peers without disabilities. During the April First Friday Lecture, Dr. Holly Brown, executive director of the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing, will showcase how the Institute is integrating scholarship, clinical practice, and service into training and clinical experiences for nurses and the health care experience for people with IDD.

Brown’s talk, “Promoting Health Equity for Individuals with IDD through the Vehicle of Nursing,” will show how the Institute, which was established in 2018 through the generosity of the Golisano Foundation and B. Thomas Golisano, is transforming the quality of care and support for individuals with IDD regionally, nationally, and internationally by training nursing professionals in field-specific skills and knowledge.

The talk begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 4, in the James ’71 and Kathleen Leo Community Room in the Joseph S. Skalny Welcome Center. A continental breakfast will be served at 10 a.m., and following the lecture, attendees are invited to attend 12:30 p.m. Mass at the Hermance Family Chapel of St. Basil the Great.
