Countdown to Commencement 2025: Andrew Ortolani

April 7, 2025

Andrew Ortolani, a criminology and criminal justice major minoring in media and communication, is this week’s featured senior in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. He was nominated by Jen Salmon, associate director of student academic support.

Ortolani has a very impressive résumé. He is actively involved on campus including as the former president of the Student Activities Board, orientation coordinator, and as a member of the finance club. His involvement has earned him a role in the Student Government Association as the director of financial affairs where he is now focused on the leadership of over 50 clubs.

Ortolani and Salmon have created a strong bond over the years of his undergraduate degree. As Salmon was his first-year advisor, the two would meet consistently to talk about ways he could get out of his comfort zone, find connections, and make an impact.

“Andrew worked so hard pushing himself through challenges and putting himself out there, finding where he belonged. He has made his mark on Fisher times ten and he has made me realize that at the end of the day, every student has it in them, they just might need some more support and guidance than other students. Feeling heard, valued, and cared for makes a big difference and he truly appreciates all the support he receives on campus,” said Salmon.

Ortolani emphasizes the immense impact that all of his advisors have had on him, not only as that support system, but more importantly as a friend. In turn, he wants to pay it forward and be that helping hand for others.

“Andrew is thinking about doing the MBA program before jumping into full-time work, he is resilient, transformative, and determined. He worked so hard pushing himself through challenges and putting himself out there and finding where he belonged. Whatever he chooses to do, he will make a positive impact on the community he decides to live in,” noted Salmon.
