Registration Now Open for Two Health Sciences Summer Camps
This summer, St. John Fisher University will host Cardinal Nurse Camp as well as Pharmacy Camp for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a career in nursing or pharmacy. The camps are hosted by the Wegmans School of Nursing and the Wegmans School of Pharmacy.
Cardinal Nurse Camp
Cardinal Nurse Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11, at the Wegmans School of Nursing and includes a shadowing experience at Rochester General Hospital.
The week-long camp offers a range of activities to provide a better understanding of the nursing field and offer hands-on experiences. Participants will have the opportunity to learn critical life-saving skills including CPR and Stop the Bleed training, explore nursing through virtual reality simulations, engage in skill lab activities, and learn more about the college application process. They will also be able to meet Fisher alumni as well as current nursing students to hear about their experiences with the program.
Cardinal Nurse Camp is an initiative of the Fisher Improves Nursing through Diversity (FIND) program and is being funded in part by a $1.1 million Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Nursing Workforce Diversity Program grant.
Online registration for Cardinal Nurse Camp is now open, and the fee is $500 with lunch included. The deadline for registration is June 6, 2025. Participants seeking sponsorship for camp will require a letter of recommendation from their school counselor. Please contact Stephanie Smyth at ssmyth@sjf.edu and (585) 899-3834 for more information.
Pharmacy Camp
Pharmacy Camp will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 4 through Friday, Aug. 8 at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy. The camp also offers a shadow experience at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Pharmacy Camp will allow participants to immerse themselves in the pharmacy profession with simulations and workshops that will teach them more about antibiotic plating, compounding, and glow germination, as well as clinical skills such as how to take blood pressure. In addition, they will have the opportunity to obtain critical CPR and Narcan training, and engage in community service while meeting Fisher pharmacists and pharmacy students. A campus tour and information session about the college application process will be included.
Registration for Pharmacy Camp is also open, with a fee of $300 including lunch, snacks, and beverages. Students can register by July 31, 2025 or until capacity is reached. For more information, call (585) 385-7203 or email gcipriano@sjf.edu.
