Fisher Anticipates Welcoming Class of 2023

For the fall 2019 semester, and for the third year in a row, over 600 first-year students have committed to St. John Fisher College making the Class of 2023 the third largest incoming class in the College’s history.

A total of 625 enrollment deposits have been received from the largest applicant pool in the College’s history. The Class of 2023 is also the strongest academic class the College has seen, with impressive average grade point average and standardized test scores, while enrolling the highest number of students in the College’s Honors Program. In addition, the incoming class is the most diverse to date, representing 16 percent of the first-year students.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the Class of 2023 on move-in day and pledge to provide them with the Fisher education they have come to expect; strong academic programming, robust campus life and intercollegiate athletic competition, and dynamic experiential learning opportunities,” said Jose Perales, vice president for enrollment management and a Fisher alumnus.

Students continue to have a strong interest in the Wegmans School of Nursing, which saw an increase in deposits for fall 2019. In the School of Business, accounting and management were among the majors with the most interest. The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education will also have an increase in new students this fall with students majoring in the inclusive childhood education and inclusive adolescence education programs. Finally, the College’s largest School, the School of Arts and Sciences, will enroll the most number of first-year students in the natural sciences, social sciences, math, and humanities. A total of 36 incoming freshmen enrolled as part of the College’s Pharmacy Early Assurance Program, putting them on an accelerated path to earning their Doctor of Pharmacy from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy.

Fisher will welcome first-year students from 11 states including Vermont, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. In addition, more than 250 new arriving student-athletes plan to participate in one of the College’s 24 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics programs.

Progress on the new state-of-the-art Upper Quad Residence Hall continues. The 155 bed building is slated to open to returning students this fall and will be at full capacity.

Move-in day will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, returning students will arrive on campus on Labor Day, and classes will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
