#Fisher2019: Prepared for the Next Step

When Jessica Colmerauer ’19 (Pharm.D.) reflects on her education at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher College, an ambulatory care rotation with Dr. Alex DeLucenay, associate professor and now fellow pharmacy alumnus, stands out.

“The rotation was challenging and unlike anything I had done before, but by the end I had developed extensively not only in my clinical abilities, but in interpersonal patient care skills as well,” she said. “As a preceptor, Dr. DeLucenay was engaged and helpful, providing feedback and guidance as needed. This rotation was extremely valuable to me and absolutely contributed to my desire to pursue ambulatory care in my future.”

For Colmerauer, that future means heading to Massachusetts for a Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) residency at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, with the eventual goal of becoming a board certified ambulatory care pharmacist. And, while she was attracted to Lahey because of its challenging environment, she’s confident that Fisher has prepared her for the next step.

“My education at St. John Fisher College and especially the last four years at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy has instilled in me a great sense of professionalism and a commitment to service as well as provided exceptional clinical training,” she said. “These are the pillars from which I have already begun to build my career in pharmacy and will serve as great foundation for future growth.”
