Sarachan Talks Documentaries at Media Conference
Jeremy Sarachan, associate professor and chair of the Department of Media and Communication, presented a talk, “Movie or Mobile: The Necessary Future of Interactive and VR Documentaries” at the Media in Transition Conference held in May in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The talk addressed the changing forms of documentary filmmaking and how audiences will ultimately determine which mediums become the norm for viewing the films.
The conference was sponsored by the Department of Comparative Media at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and included scholars from across the country, with others traveling from India, China, Spain, and elsewhere.
The theme of the conference was “Democracy and Digital Media” and included such topics as media activism, virtual reality, the politics of digital space, the #metoo movement, games and civic engagement, and “authoritarianism, information warfare, and social media.”
