Fisher Welcomes First-Year Students Today
On Friday, Aug. 21, St. John Fisher College will officially welcome the Class of 2024 to campus. This will be the largest cohort of freshmen to arrive on campus in the College’s history; and this is the fourth consecutive year that Fisher has enrolled a class larger than 600 students.
The Class of 2024, more than 630 students strong, is among the most academically-qualified classes the College has seen, with impressive grade point average and standardized test scores; it is also the most diverse to date. Additionally, the College is welcoming its inaugural cohort of Fisher Urban Scholars, comprised of 35 students from the City of Rochester.
While the day looks a bit different from traditional “Move-In Day,” this year, families will experience a Welcome Parade, where faculty, staff, and current students will line the center entrance of campus to cheer on families as they approach Ward and Haffey Halls. Students living in Murphy Hall will have their own parade lining the entrance to south campus. On their way through the drop-off zone, families can stop and take a photo at the “Make a Memory” station, and give a final goodbye at the “Hug Zone.”
Throughout the weekend, these new Cardinals will participate in virtual workshops and small group seminars introducing them to Fisher. On Sunday evening, the virtual Matriculation Ceremony will ceremoniously mark the beginning of their academic journey at the College.
About 90 percent of the class will reside on campus. Nursing, biology, sport management, pharmaceutical chemistry, and management are among the majors with the most interest from the Class of 2024./p>
Upperclassman will return to campus on Sunday, Aug. 23, and classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 24.
