Pharmacy Alumna Named 2020 Walmart Scholar
Dr. Joy Snyder ’18 (Pharm.D.) was recently selected as an American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) 2020 Walmart Scholar. Snyder, who is currently completing a fellowship program through the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, is one of only 65 individuals from across the nation to be awarded the scholarship.
The scholarship aims to create a pipeline of qualified pharmacy faculty members by strengthening the skills of its recipients and encouraging a commitment to careers in academic pharmacy. As a 2020 Walmart Scholar, Snyder was able to participate in virtual sessions with leaders in academic pharmacy, attend the AACP Teachers Seminar with mentors and pharmacy educators, and join events and programs at the AACP Annual Meeting.
The conference offered a deep dive into inclusive teaching and online education, two topics Snyder said will serve her well as she enters the classroom.
“Throughout the conference, I was able to assess my own teaching style and possible biases and I hope to apply the learning points to better my teaching in the future,” she said. “As the Wegmans School of Pharmacy is launching our new Pharm.D. online program, I thought it would be beneficial to hear what other schools are doing and their experiences in the online education platform.”
