St. John Fisher University Receives National Recognition as 2024-2025 College of Distinction
For the ninth consecutive year, St. John Fisher University has been named a College of Distinction, marking its commitment to providing an exceptional undergraduate educational experience.
Fisher was named to the 2024-2025 list, recognizing the University’s delivery of a high-quality undergraduate education that focuses on hands-on learning, strong student-faculty relationships, a vibrant campus life, and successful student outcomes.
Since its founding in 2000, Colleges of Distinction has awarded schools for their successful implementation of high-impact educational practices and hands-on learning. Unlike traditional ranking systems based on numerical data, its rigorous selection process involves extensive research and detailed interviews with the institutions, accepting only those that adhere to the four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes.
Inclusion on the list acknowledges Fisher’s demonstrated performance in each of these areas, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment that equips students for future academic and career success.
“Our commitment to our students is to provide them with a learning and living environment that offers them opportunities to engage in ways that will impact and inspire them most,” said Dr. Gerard J. Rooney, president of the University. “Whether they pursue a research opportunity, present at a national conference, compete in their sport, or accept a leadership position in a club, all they do contributes to their educational goals and developmental aspirations. We are proud to have earned this recognition once again and for the privilege to accompany our students as they move toward their goal of a college degree.”
In addition to earning the honor of a College of Distinction, Fisher received specialized recognition among institutions in New York and among private institutions. The University was also praised for its business, education, and nursing programs, as well as its career development initiatives. These accolades were borne out of a need for curricula that are comprehensive not only in course material, but also in practical- and soft-skills development. Fisher has met these needs with a blend of liberal arts education, program-specific training, and abundant opportunities for real-world, experiential learning.
“A college degree opens the door to many opportunities,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction. “But a truly worthwhile education prepares students to thrive once they walk through that door. Fisher’s curriculum encourages meaningful student-faculty collaboration through experiential learning that is relevant and applicable to the real world.”
Schritter continued, “We are so impressed to see how Fisher brings life to the traditional undergraduate experience.”
