Endowed Scholarship Supports Accounting Students at Fisher
A newly endowed scholarship fund at St. John Fisher University will benefit undergraduate students in the School of Business, thanks to the generosity of alumnus and University Trustee Matt Rowe ’90.
This $100,000 endowed scholarship will help offset the cost of tuition for juniors or seniors studying accounting. An additional $50,000 will support his continued membership at the Presidents Level in Spire Society, Fisher’s annual giving society.
Rowe earned a degree in business administration and was a standout member of the football program. Today, he serves as president of Gotham Surgical, which distributes medical and surgical equipment throughout the Greater New York City area.
A second-generation Fisher graduate—his father was a member of the Class of 1961—Rowe has remained a steadfast supporter of the University.
“My father was incredibly proud of Fisher. I’m fortunate to be able to give back to the school and do something that honors his legacy,” said Rowe.
In 2016, Rowe was inducted into Fisher’s Athletics Hall of Fame, recognizing his career as a defensive standout and leader of the football program during its infancy at the NCAA Division III level. The following year, he gave a gift to name the football coaching suite the William E. Rowe ’61 Football Coaching Suite in honor of his father. The suite is located in the Coaches Corridor in the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Athletic Center. In addition to his contributions to the Fisher football team, Rowe was also one of the first players involved in the men’s lacrosse program. What began as a club sport on campus during Rowe’s time as a student, the program has grown to national prominence; this year, the men’s team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament.
