TriBeta Honors Fisher for Chapter Excellence
The Upsilon Rho Chapter of Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) at St. John Fisher University was given the second place 2022-2023 Bertholf Award, given by the national honor society.
TriBeta formally recognized this year’s winners at their national convention, held in May at Columbus State University in Georgia. As the second place recipient, Fisher’s chapter received a plaque and a $250 prize.
Established in 1961, The Bertholf Award provides national and local recognition to chapters demonstrating program excellence and promote scholarship, dissemination of scientific information, and biological research. The Bertholf Committee presently bases the award upon four criteria: member activity in conducting and publishing research; participation in district and national conventions and other scientific meetings; chapter programming and activities; and orderly record keeping and communication with the national office.
Fisher’s chapter of TriBeta is active on and off campus. Each year, students travel to TriBeta national and regional conferences to participate in poster presentations. In the fall, the group creates holiday cards for residents staying at local hospitals. Over the last five years, several Fisher students have earned grants from the TriBeta Research Foundation to engage in academic research.
In addition, the University has a history of recognition with TriBeta; Fisher was named an Outstanding Chapter in 2017-2018; 2019-2020; and 2020-2021.
