Narrative

Dr. Denise Curlee has over 13 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has been with the Mental Health Counseling Program at Wegmans School of Nursing since 2017. In addition to her role as a professor, Dr. Curlee has served as the Director of Clinical Internships since 2021. Dr. Curlee has been a licensed mental health counselor since 2013 and specializes in forensic counseling with an emphasis on domestic violence perpetrator and sex offender treatment. Additionally, she is EMDR trained, is currently receiving her certification from EMDRIA, and will pursue EMDR Trainer status.

Dr. Curlee is passionate about and dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in our society and the mental health professions. As a first-generation high school and college graduate who was raised in rural poverty and identifies in the Queer community, she has an acute understanding of systemic barriers and the resilience of marginalized communities. Dr. Curlee takes her passion and dedication to the communities she serves and lives in. In the words of Zora Neale Hurston, “Go hard, or go home!”
