Dr. Kevin Railey currently serves as the provost and vice president for academic affairs, overseeing the five academic Schools of Fisher as well as Lavery Library, Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), Sponsored Programs, the Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, and the Center for Career and Academic Planning. He leads efforts to expand and strengthen community engagement activities, oversees school-based accreditations, participates in senior cabinet discussions regarding institutional planning, participates in local collective impact networks, and serves on a variety of local boards. Railey was recognized by the Rochester Business Journal as one of the Power Thirty in Higher Education in Rochester in 2021.
Outside of Fisher, Railey has been active in higher education for nearly 30 years with past experiences as associate provost and dean of the graduate school at SUNY Buffalo State. During that time, he also served as the English department chair, curriculum task force chair for the Center of Excellence in Urban and Rural Education, and as associate director of the campus affiliate of the National Coalition Building Institute (focused on equity and inclusion training). He received the President’s Medal for the Advancement of Equity and Campus Diversity in 2003, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities in 2005, and the Dr. Muriel A. Howard Award for Service Leadership in 2016.
Railey graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He then went on to earn his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Stony Brook University.
