Dr. Kiss's program of research focuses research on nursing education surrounding care of patients with intellectual or developmental disabilities, specifically during the transition period.
Dr. Kiss and Dr. Redlo have created an online education designed to provide direct support staff working with residents of nursing homes with basic training in infectious diseases and how to properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Dr. Kiss is also working on the implementation of threading IDD curriculum into the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs within the Wegmans School or Nursing.
She has also been focusing on medical device related pressure ulcers. Her research has found that the presence of medical devices increases the risk of skin breakdown and pressure ulcers. Use of a combined risk prediction tool and clinical guideline for medical device related hospital acquired pressure users has helped to inform and optimize prevention and treatment.
Dr. Kiss has presented regionally, nationally, and internationally and consulted on topics related to developmental and intellectual disabilities and pediatric wound and device care at Strong Memorial Hospital.
